Maybe it's the pregnancy. Okay, probably it's the pregnancy. I am very emotional and sentimental these days. NOT a good state to be in for your oldest child's birthday.
On Monday, Abby turned 7. Since toddlerhood, it's seemed that Abby has been straining against time, racing to get older faster than the days will let her. If she had it her way she would skip all the single digit years and move straight to 10 or 11. If I had it my way...well.
Abby loves all the trappings of girlhood--Hannah Montana, purses, makeup, boys, High School Musical, Jonas. But she also loves drawing and painting, playing on the monkey bars and wrestling with her daddy. Thank goodness pop culture hasn't completely taken over. Still, sometimes it seems like there's no "little girl" left in her.
And then.
Then we'll be doing something, like sitting at McDonald's for her birthday lunch, and her daddy will ask her what flavor McFlurry she wants as a birthday treat. She'll answer "In Em Ins", which will remind me that she still mispronounces M&Ms the same way she has since she was 2, and somehow I don't feel so rushed any more. Happy Birthday, Baby Girl.
Here's a picture of Matt, Abby and me at her first birthday party. I know, we were all babies then.

Beautiful post. I understand.
If it helps, there are plenty of others that can't believe she's 7 either. And next year I won't be ready to believe she's 8. She already seems 25, so maybe that one won't be such a shock. The cool thing is, all she has to do is say "Miss Autumn" and it reminds me that she's still the same sweet little girl. It's great!
Oh my word. What a sweet girl you have. She will be such a great sister to those two crazy boys - which will probably "grow her up" even more. But oh how she'll love every minute of it! Great post. Great pic :)
It's so hard to watch your kiddos grow up, but it is so exciting too! I love that Jake still wants to snuggle with me and get hugs and kisses! I know that will pass all too soon.
I still make him say "farmer john cheese" when he wants some parmesan cheese! Won't I be annoying to him in a few years!!
Hi there,
I typically don't leave comments on anyone's blog (my best friend has a blog on this site, and occasionally I like to sit and click the "next blog" button a few times just for fun); however, you did ask for comments while promising not to think someone a creep, so I thought I'd give it a try. :)
I write because in an odd way, I understand--sort of. I'm a nineteen year old college freshman, living away from home for the first time. If it makes you feel even the slightest bit better, there will come a day when she'd give up anything to be seven again, living at home, where momma makes lunches and there's a big backyard to play in.
As an aside: Of course, now that I'm old enough to appreciate my youth (so to speak), my mother is cheering on all of my "big girl" accomplishments... helping me decorate my first apartment and buying my textbooks. She's thrilled, and I'm (somewhat) miserable... the roles will reverse and you'll get your motherly "revenge!" :)
OK, such a sweet post paired with Jessica's 2nd paragraph made me cry...it's like your horomones are catching! :)
And as an aside, I know you love your straight hair, but I still miss the curls :)

Sweet, sweet Abby.. I clearly remember her as a 1 year old! I cry over the fact that Katie is almost 5 months old. That nearly breaks my heart. I can't even imagine her turning 7 :o(
Kiddos grow up way to fast. The older they get, it seems like time just rushes at increasingly rapid speeds. I have a poem, "Four once more" and a picture of Brandy at 4 that I always intended to frame and now she is grown with a little one of her own. Maybe I will save it until Abigail and Sabrina are four.
And for Jessica, I can assure you that if you and your mom are as close as you seem that even thou she is cheering you on, there is a part of her that would turn back that time to when you were 7 and she made your lunches and she could hear you playing in the backyard. Also, I remember being 19 and living on my own for the very first time. It is scary and lonely. Don't try to do it on your own. Find a good church with a great college/young adult ministry, make friends, step out and get involved in what they have to offer. Work in the nursery, serve the senior adults. Don't sit home and be alone because that is miserable.
Nancy, keep writing and keep loving those babies and Matt too!

What a beautiful family! I haven't found an adequate picture yet, but I do agree with your hubby in protecting your identity. It is, unfortunately, an unsafe world we all find ourselves living in.
Take care!

What a beautiful family you have.
